How to Create a Crossword Puzzle
Enter a list of words in the text area above using the format: Clue:Answer, one pair per line.
The generator will attempt to place your words in a square grid of the size you specify. Words must intersect with other words to be placed successfully.
Keep in mind:
Answers must be at least 2 letters long and contain only letters.
Answers cannot be longer than the grid size minus 2 (to allow for the border).
Not all words may fit, especially if the grid is small or the word list is long/complex. The generator uses random placement and backtracking, so results may vary.
Words can only be placed Left-to-Right (Across) or Top-to-Bottom (Down).
If many words are unplaced, try increasing the grid size or using a different set of words. Regenerating with the same words may also yield a different result.
Tip:
You can use tools like ChatGPT (Reasoning Models Like o4mini) to help generate word lists and clues. Try a prompt like this:
Give me a list of 20-30 words and their clues that are related to [Your Topic Here] and could fit well together in a 15x15 square crossword grid (allowing for a 1-cell border), ensuring good intersection points. Provide the output in the format: "Clue:Answer", one pair per line.
